Welcome to the 20th Anniversary of the (1996, 1997) 1998 (1999, 2000) Blue Angels Team(s)!
To all of our Blue Angels Teammates,
Can it really be 20 years since we traveled all over the country showcasing Naval Aviation to the American Public (and having a lot of fun along the way!)? Time has flown by even faster than Yogi and V-8 on the Double Sneak Pass.
Some of us have stayed in touch, but too many have dropped off our radar screens. Such is life as we raise families, climb the ladder, moving here and there. But one thing remains: the bonds we formed when we shared the hard work, sacrifice, challenges, and victories as elite teammates.
There are a thousand reasons not to carve out the time and expense to join us in Pensacola for our 20th Anniversary End-of-Season weekend. But if you make the trip, you may have the same experience I have each time I’m with one or more of you. I look around and invariably think two thoughts: 1) How lucky I am to be part of such an amazing group of people who inspire me by their personal examples, and 2) I need to reignite my game to be worthy of the standard we set during those magnificent years we served together.
The invitation list was widened to include our fellow Blues from 1996-2000, to welcome as many as possible who served with us in Pensacola, El Centro, and all over the USA. Our motto is: “the more, the merrier.” I so look forward to hearing each of your stories from the last 20 years — the opportunities seized, the struggles endured, the challenges overcome, and the victories savored. Bring family photos on your phones!
Our thanks and appreciation to MO Merritt, Mike Odom, Nancy Lake, Lynn Hadley, and RC and Sherri Hirn for getting the ball rolling for this celebration. No other Teams do this.
One more arm-twist to seize the moment and join us. Don’t put it off. Because if not his year, the 20th, when? Time flies.
Until November, when we’ll see blue and gold jets laying smoke on the crowd at NAS — and gather on the deck at The Oar House with fond stories that begin, “Remember when we did the show in…?”
